Thinking of getting a kindle

I was thinking of buying a Kindle 3G keyboard tomorrow with prime.. but is this an older model? is it based off the Kindle 3?

it's the KSO version and from what I hear you cant remove them in this version? however reading around here most seem to be supportive of it.

kindle keyboard is "Kindle 3". Kindle keyboard is just the new official name for it.

No you can't remove the Ads from a KKSO. The K4 you can later if you don't like it. The screensavers and thin banner ad are no bother to me at all. They are not animated. So for someone like me who detests ads and uses Ad Block I don't mind the Special Offers version Kindles at all. One of the offers upcoming is 50% off select Kindle covers that right there makes it worth it to me.

I don't think the ads will bother me since the ads I saw in some pictures are pretty small.

And the ads never show while you're reading, which makes it pretty much a no-brainer for me.

I think I'm going to get it in the graphite color i'm sure not as reflective in the sun

Early graphite models (including mine) had problems with the lettering on the keys coming off. I had mine replaced because of cracks on the bezel and I noticed the ink on the keys were greatly improved on the replacement.

There were also rumors about the graphite models overheating under the direct sun, although this was never confirmed.

The white model did not have any of those problems.

The ads have been quite useful, and can really save you a decent amount of scratch. If you're debating on which model to get, you could always try and go to a retailer that sells them, and see if you can get your hands on a couple to see which you might prefer. Of course, Amazon has a great return policy, so you've got a little bit of protection there.

heh I hear Amazon's return is good I've had a account with them since 2007 but did not really until like 2 month ago start really buying stuff from them.

Some other questions I have is do I have an option for turning off the wi-fi or 3G or is it just an on/off setting?

Also in one of the areas I go to I set the network up with WPA can the kindle connect to WPA networks?

It's On/Off setting but if you are not connected to a WiFi network then 3G will be on unless you turn both off under the Menu. I have Graphite K3 with 3G. I don't have any cracks, letter rubbings off and any issues with mine. It's been a great reader for me till I got my K4 now it's a backup for me.
