Like the idea of a nook color but would love...
to also read kindle books on it. I understand that can be accomplished by rooting the nook color.
But what I'm wondering is if the nook color web browser can be use with the kindle cloud reader? I currently use my RIM Playbook with the kindle cloud reader and it works pretty well. I would like to have a few small devices to leave around the house in different rooms. I would consider any tablet that will let me read gmail, google reader, facebook and kindle books. The devices I've considered include ipod touch, the upcoming kindle tablet, the playbook...but the nook color has both a great screen size and a great price. Now i just need to fully understand its capabilities. Thanks for any info! |

You can use Calibre to convert the books to epub and they will read on the NC.
http://calibre-ebook.com/ I use it to manage my ebook library. Apache |

Yeah I have used calibre. I have fallen in love with whispersync though. I love having different reading devices in different places and being able to pick up any device and have it know my current page in my book.
I'd like that. And, the ability to read my gmail and facebook. And probably my google rss feeds. My ipod touch with the kindle app can do that, but the nook color offers a larger screen for not more money...if it will handle the kindle books. |

I don't know if the B&N market has Dophin HD but if it does you can use that browser to access the Kindle web app. You will just have to change the user agent. If you root or upgrade to CM7 you can do all of the things you listed and more. Both are just as easy to do and fully documented on the web. All you need is a microSD card with a minimal of 2GB. You can also install CM7 on a microSD card and leave your default B&N OS untouched. =X= |

Get a Nook Color, root it.
Use the Kindle for Android app. So many things you can do with it then - the possibilities are nearly endless. The screen is not only 'the right size', it's a breathtakingly beautiful screen. I think it's better for video than for books, but YMMV, as always. |

Lenovo is releasing a 7" IPS stock Android tablet for $249 pretty soon. You might look into something like that.

If you want to "root" the Nook Color from an SD card so that you still have the stock software on (and -- AFAIK -- no warranty voiding issues), I have a tutorial here that you might find interesting:
http://www.anamardoll.com/2011/07/er...olor-from.html I've been very happy with the SD card method. |

Just an update on the whole Netflix thing, it's now available on all Android 2.2 and 2.3 devices directly from the Market(this means it will work with CM7). You can just download it and it works great on my CM7 NC.
