Security on enTourage eDGe . . .

1) Do I need virus protection on my eDGe like I do my desktop computer? If so, what do my fellow enTourage eDGe users recommend?

2) And pop-up blockers, spyware removers, etc.?

3) Also, one thing that worries me with Apps: Every time I install one, I get the message that the program is going to access all kinds of stuff . . . contacts, location, etc. It makes me feel like Big Brother is watching everything I do and that I'm signing away ALL my "privacy" by agreeing to give access to those things to all those apps!

I'm probably just over-worrying, but the fact remains that once somebody gets a hook into all my information, it's pretty much an open book forever and I have no idea who has access to it.

I'll speak to #3: I always read through it carefully, but since the device isn't technically a phone, since it's not 3G enabled and not "always on" like a phone would be, I don't really worry too much. It can't track my location via GPS and I don't have phone contacts stored and don't receive text messages to the device (isn't that one way phone viruses can be transmitted?), I don't think the Android apps actually end up accessing very much through an edge.

But please, correct me if I'm wrong.

As for queston No. 2, both the native browser and Dolphin have popup blockers. Access this option in each browser by pushing the menu button on your edDGe, then choosing Settings.

And for the anti virus, so far no Android Virus - although a couple of malware/trojans from Chinese markets have been found, one of the masquerading as a media player then sending SMS messages to overseas numbers. No worries there, the edge is not a phone. Just get your apps from legitimate sources.

For your peace: there is a new AVG Antivirus Free (and Pro) for Android in the AndAppStore.

Does this look for a virus that would run on Android, or is it more like most Linux "anti-virus" programs that really only scan for Windows viruses?
