E-newspaper question
Hi,
New member to the forum here, and I have a question regarding newspaper content on the Kindle 3: when I download a newspaper through the Kindle store, any pictures (or charts) that are embedded within an article display on the Kindle, but any pictures outside of articles (such as a lead picture on the front cover), do not display on the Kindle. If I were to use the Calibre tool to download the newspaper and transmit it over to my Kindle, would the newspaper display any differently than when purchasing it straight through the Kindle store? Specifically, would pictures that are outside of articles display on the Kindle? Thanks for any help that you can give. |

I have found Calibre to be more useful than the already Kindle-formatted newspaper on Amazon.com. The content from BBC and CNN is plenty for me in order to catch up with the news of the days. Also, www.readingthenet.com has a cool Kindle feature which you can download. It's called Book of the web.

It certainly is wise to compare free options to ones you pay for.
In my experience, the newspapers you pay for via Amazon.com are much more complete and better organized than via Calibre. Assuming you have the 3G model, web based solutions are more up-to-date than via Amazon.com, but there is that internet page load delay. I have been reading the New York Times, for free, on mobile devices, for what seem like many years. Anyone remember AvantGo? Any day now, the Times is supposed to be putting up a pay wall. Then I'll get the 2 month free trial (sign up by Feb. 15) at amazon.com. And then, on or about tax day, the free gravy train they have been foolish enough to offer me, a former home delivery customer, will be over. Or maybe they'll change their mind on the pay wall so that free access to the, IMHO, world's greatest newspaper will roll on ![]() |
