Libre not finding Folders on SD Card?
Greetings,
I recently received a Libre for my birthday (thanks awesome wife!) and it is working very well. I am rather impressed with its formatting of epub files and its PDF reflow capabilities. I do have two issues, however: first, some of the folders on my SD card do not show up (the scifi and philosophy folders show up, but not the fantasy or economics folders, for example). Another issue is an inablity to zoom graphics based pdfs. Does the Aluratek have this ability? |

Did you insert the SD card with the unit on? With my JBL, if the unit is off when I insert an updated SD card, it sometimes does not recognize changes I've made on the card. Maybe the same is true for the Libre.

The same thing can happen if you overlay updated text and the file name doesn't change. I believe this has to do with the cache or indexing not being updated. As Catlady stated inserting/removing the card forces the device to re-index and it may also flush the cache.
I edited some files for spelling errors and on replacing them on the device the older text remained in place (file name unchanged). If I copied them over under a new file name the card get's re-indexed and the changes show-up. John Last edited by jlg432; 01-28-2011 at 06:31 PM. |

I find that both this unit and the Jetbook work much better when you never do anything with the card installed in the reader. They still have USB 1.1 and it is slower than a 360k floppy disc.
Hopefully the new Jetbook+ will finally go to USB 2. I mean come on guys, time to get at least into the 1990s. After all, the rest of the world is setting up for USB 3. |

I have loaded the contents of four CDs into the SD card and the Libre correctly recognized them as music. I also loaded an audiobook and the title also appeared on the menu list. All this using an SD card reader. I did not bury them under layers of folders though. So it seems to work okay only thing as everyone says: have the Libre on while you are inserting the card.

Aluratek support told me to use the USB cable and not remove the card. However, there is a better way. Just go to the main menu - the very first one before entering the eBooks menu, and remove the card. A little window will pop up telling you it is rescanning and not to reinsert the card. At this point, use your USB 2.0 card reader to add the books and plug it back in - a similar message pops up (except this time it's scanning the card).
If you forgot to go there before removing the card, just go to the menu, pop it out, wait until the message goes away, then pop it in again. You should see your content. |

What I do for my JBL, which in this regard functions the same as your ALP, is to have
created a folder on my PC that is what I want on the SD card for my JBL. I build and maintain the file structure that I want using the much faster and extensive file handling capabilities of my PC. I obtain the ebooks through my PC anyway and can disinfect them there preparing them for my device. Once they are ready for reading on my JBL, I just put the file into its proper place in the file structure of the folder on my PC. When it comes time to update the SD card with whatever changes or additions I have made to the folder, I just run the free MS "SyncToy", with the SD card in the 2.0 USB media reader I have installed in my PC. As has been said, you need to be sure your device updates its file listings, and the device provides a message that lets you know it is doing that. Of course your device needs to be up and running for that to take place. Luck; Ken |
