Always the same... Which one?

Hi there,

I am new to this forum, so hello everyone.

I have read A LOT of threads already, but some questions remain.

I want an eReader to use for
- just normal reading of books (I don't have a preferred source like Amazon)

- reading of PDFs and Text-Files (Word, but as they can be converted to pdf it's maybe not an extra feature). These PDFs will almost entirely be plain text, maybe sometimes a few math formulas, but that's not that important.

- I absolutely want be able to make annotations in the PDFs/Text files

- I went to town today to try out an Oyo, just to see if the 6'' size would be large enough for me and I think it is not. So it should be at least 9.7''

- I really would like a web browser for at least Wikipedia, because I found out that read quite a lot wikipedia articles on my pc, which is really bad for my eyes. Other web pages are not that important, because I use my smartphone for checking mail and stuff. If that would also work over 3g it would be a huge plus.

- I am quite skilled at using computers, so I have no problem to download and use obscure open source programs or whatever to convert formats, try alternative firmwares (I am changing ROMs on my android phone on an almost weekly basis :-) ) or remove DRM from books and so on.

- I reside in Germany, so I can't order a Sony 950 which I considered. Obvioulsy my other choices were Kindle DX and Pocketbook 903.

The 950 appeals to me due to its touch screen, but I can't order it here and to order it from the US makes it even more expensive and I am worried about warranty issues, also I think it is quite overpriced.

The Pocketbook looks good, but when I read the forum I see people complaining about firmware bugs, requesting features and so on. Is there any experience if Pocketbook tends to release firmware updates on a somewhat regular basis?

Any help appreciated!

The Kindle DXG cannot be searched, highlighted, or annotated. There is a program I have seen mentioned on the Kindle boards that might allow you to do that. It begins with a "D" and I am blanking on the name right now. You might want to look in the developers corner of the Kindle forums.

I don't doubt your good intentions, but your signature makes me wonder about just how neutral your point of view is

In the forums I see people complaining about the not getting any firmware upgrades or bugfixes for a long time.

By the way: Can you access any web page via 3g with the Pocketbook 903 or just the Bookland store?
