having two readers on one kindle
My wife and myself are reading the same book on our kindle and cannot find a way to save our separate reading places. Can I make the Kindle recognize that there are two separate page locations that we want to save?

Uhh, so there's two people, one Kindle?
If she reads books from your account on her iphone or some other device or vice versa I would say that you go to Manage Your Kindle on the Amazon page and disable Syncronization between two devices but if it's just you both trying to keep your own place in the book..... Whenever you're done reading why not just make a note where you left off? Type with the keyboard My Spot and then when you open the book again just hit menu, select my My notes and marks and that's where your place is. Last edited by Anarel; 11-17-2010 at 10:15 AM. |

Can you use Bookmarks. You set one after reading. She sets another. You begin reading and REMOVE YOUR bookmark and set another as you finish. She does the same? I have not really used Bookmarks but it might work. Clearly, it requires some additional work and housekeeping. Obviously you do not want to leave a whole bunch of bookmarks scattered about.

The only other thing you could do, besides FF2's bookmark suggestion, is to write down the location number of the page you last read and then when you open the book you would need to use the Menu "Go to" option and input the correct location. Perhaps not quite as complicated as using bookmarks and at least you wouldn't need to remember to delete your old bookmarks.
Kudos to you and your partner for being willing to share a Kindle and to share the same book at the same time. I've never shared the same paperback book with someone (as in, reading it at the same time,) let alone the same Kindle eBook on the same device. Guess I'm just too selfish to take sharing that far - you can read the book after I've finished it is the way I would be dealing with this. ![]() Holly |

I agree Holly. The 2 things I will never share are books or food. Hats off to the OP for sharing with his wife

If book is not original (i.e. bought from Amazon) I simply will make two copies with a different names or authors (with Calibre or Mobipocket or so) and this will solve the problem. The Kindle will keep the progress for each book thinking they was different books.
I.e. Godfather-Skipper.mobi and Godfather-Wife.mobi. Wow, I remember I had a girlfriend who loves fantasy books as me and we often read new books simultaneously. What hell was when someone loses the bookmark position (brr, paper stripe) for the other one (I don't have these adhesive 3M bookmarks at this time)... Last edited by enkov; 11-17-2010 at 12:42 PM. |

My husband now has an Kindleapps on my one-click-account. Yes, I now see, why this has to stay in the family.
![]() We agreed that if one of us opens a book and it is already openend; he/she chooses another one, or we ask if it's allright. Our distance isn't that far away most of the times we're reading. ![]() |

And it will write a comment at that location. Then when it's your turn to read, just pick up the book, go to "My Annotations" and select your comment "The Skipper docks here" and it will take you to your last read spot. =X= |
