Newbie - How to Edit
Hello,
I am new to this site. I am trying to find a way to edit ePUB after conversion. My first conversion was from a PDF. I now want to be able to correct the table of contents so that I can jump to the correct page (all the chapters so page 2 within the Table of Contents). I also want to put Page/Chapter Breaks, and possibly do text corrections. Thanks. |

Welcome to MobileRead, AdeptJR
If that can be done, someone will jump in soon to show you how. Enjoy the forums. |

Calibre does not support editing directly - you have to use external applications for that. For ePub the recommended program is Sigil (also free and open-source).

Is there anything simpler than Sigil? It seems to be for programmers. I was able to figure out how to do Chapter Breaks and wanted text. I went to the online manual and was not clear on how to follow. I could not figure out how to do TOC, as nothing pops-up and how to remove underscore and change color of text. Any help would be appreciated.

Change your view with the buttons The TOC is simple, if you keep in mind the word: NESTED ![]() Place the cursor on (do not highlight the text) the text to ALSO be used for the TOC entry, pull down the selection box (defaults to normal if the insert point is not in a header) and select your header level. I use: H1 for the Book Title H2 for Parts (if a book has ben divided that way) H3 for Chapters (and other "sections" i want to appear) IMHO using a "Word processor" to make an E-Pub results in a bloated mess of crappy coding. ![]() There is still a lot Sigil does not do for you (it may require hand coding in CV), but it rarely Sigil does not have controls to color text (Color?. It all appears as shades of gray on my reader). That is usually coded in the style sheet (If it is not: another example of sloppy code), where the color can be adjusted in a single change. |

Still lost. I figured out how to get rid of the underscore, I just copied the code right above and retyped within the code the correct wording and the color and underscore was corrected. By the way I am using Mac. I am still lost on the TOC. I go to TOOLS and select TOC Editor, but it does nothing, it does not list the chapters.

Note: that my button locations have been moved from default. Use the <select Heading> tool to pick a level. Note if your insert point is PROPERLY (to set it) on the text, this may say Normal. |
