"The battle of the e-readers"

I'm a couple days behind in my news, but I didn't see anybody else post this one. A good article by CBC gives all readers visibility, not just the typical Kindle article.

Good article - succinctly sums up the pros and cons of each device. Thanks for posting!

Certainly the price of the Kindle is attractive but we happily paid more for a Sony PRS-650 because it supports ePub. Our local library is our major source for books and they lend ePub eBooks.

I laughed reading the part about the Sony touch-screen features, as the first time I showed my Kindle to several friends they immediately started touching the screen, expecting it to behave like an iPhone or other touch-interface.

Excellent article though. Thanks.

Yeah, people touch my nook screen all the time and I chastise them, saying "would you want to read through fingerprints?" I hate touch-screen on the reading screen. I think B&N found the perfect balance for touch screen interface on the bottom, but non-touch reading screen.

How come the article included the Kobo and not the Nook? Seems very odd.

Ah, but you should see my 2 year old nephew manipulate the touch screens of my Sony and my Nokia smartphone. If he sees a screen now, he automatically pokes it. Keyboards will probably be archaic to him. Reminds me of the scene in "Star Trek: The Voyage Home", where Scotty automatically tries to operate a computer by voice commands.

That was a nice article, seemed to treat each reader fairly, but it would have been nice if mention was made of all the other ereaders out there who are more flexible than those three. I dislike that they seem to downgrade readers that don't allow for automatic downloading of ebooks. I don't know about the rest of you, but I never download a single ebook at a time, and I never keep just one book on my reader. There are hundreds on mine so that I will never be in dire need of a direct download of an ebook.

It's a Canadian news story. One of our large bookstore chains (Indigo/Chapters/Coles) is a big partner in Kobo. As far as I know, there are no B&N stores up here, and I'm not sure if they will ship a nook to someone living in Canada.

"A keyboard! How quaint!" Followed by typing at about 200 words per minute.

If we could all type that fast, then it would be the "point 'n' grunt" and voice command interfaces that end up quaint.

Nice article but darn the comments were depressing. There was a person there who brought up a very good point about carbon footprints and landfills. Not exactly the way Id like to think about it but the man or woman is right. I also find it hysterical how they consistently got thumbs down on almost every comment they posted.

Whoever came up with the idea of touch screens on anything wants shooting. I spent years teaching my kids never to touch the computer screen or TV, now as soon as they see something new they start poking it with slimy fingers.

I've been using my 950's touchscreen for 3 days now and do not see fingerprints on the screen. The new Sony technology doesn't even require touching the screen to actually make changes.

Are you talking about thornz? That idiot is so blatantly anti-technology that I am surprised they are on a computer. And talk about going on and on and on.... They don't want anyone to buy anything, and are disagreeing with just about anyting anyone else says.
