Calibre 9 + merge books is broken

Windows 11.

Since Calibre 9, and up to it's current iteration, when I attempt to merge a book having more than one format (or the same file, duplicated) it asks me "You are about to merge very many (23) books. Are you sure you want to proceed?"

If I say yes, it deletes all files to be merged.

If I say no, the message goes away. If I immediately attempt another merge, the same problem occurs. If I remove one of the titles from selection, re-select it, it and attempt to merge, it will work. That's a weighty work around.

This message is primarily intended for the developer and anyone who assists him. To submit a bug report properly, I'd have to register, etc.

I'll be reinstalling 8.16.2 until it's noted that this is fixed.

note: no information on merging, deletions, etc showed up debug mode using

calibre-debug --gui -debug

It only shows titles added, titles that can't be deleted because they're in use by another operation, etc. No merging or deletions noticed. I'm not familiar with all flags that could be useful here.

Does not replicate for me on windows. What steps exactly are you doing to cause the issue.
