Help with KindleForPC
My Kindle for PC v2.8.70980 has stopped working. All the books in my library have the open command "grayed out". The download command returns an exclamation mark in the lower right of the book icon and nothing is downloaded into the My Kindle Content directory.
I have tried removing and reinstalling with no success. Also have tried redelivering books to the device with no success. Anybody have any suggestions on what I can do? |

You have most likely rebooted the PC and again downloaded the Kindle app?

I removed the Kindle App using Windows uninstall. Rebooted PC. Then installed the Kindle For PC using the 2.870980 installer file from Amazon. The installation seemed to work with no errors and completed registration to my Amazon account. Sync pulled up all my books in the Library list with icons showing. Just can't read or download book.
Also tried de-registering and re-registering. Everything seems to proceed normally but can't read or download any of my books. Purchased two new books (Freebies) and tried again. Same results--books can't be read or downloaded. |

You might want to check on Amazon's website and remove any of your old Kindle4PC installs. Then set your live install as the default device and see if that helps.

One more bright idea. Without the Kindle app running, go to My Documents - My Kindle Content and rename that directory to something like My Kindle Contest 2. Then start the Kindle app You probably will get a warning that the directory can't be found. Ignore it. The app creates a new directory and all your books should be there and available to download and read. In other words, I think there may be a corrupted file in that original directory. Just a guess.

It was worth trying but unfortunately didn't help. Still have same problem. Everything seems OK with my Amazon account just something weird changed with the KindleForPC.
I am using 2 KindleForPCs on 2 different computers. Computer#1 has version 1.24.3 installed and I have used for years to download books with dates earlier than 2025. Computer#2 has had version 2.4 for the later books and then I updated in September to v2.8. All has been working well with both setups up to this weekend. Purchased books go into the Amazon Cloud Reader and are available to be downloaded by whichever computer I need based on date. Computer#1 continues to work for downloads and all is fine. Not sure what changed but not a big loss for me. Only limits my ability to get any new books published this year. Thank you for the responses. |
