Japanese dictionaries are completely unusable

Hello! I'm getting a Kobo Libra Colour soon to use with KOreader, and the last couple days I've been getting a feel for KOreader on my desktop. I'd like to be able to have Japanese word lookup, i.e. something similar to yomitan (formerly yomichan) that is able to parse words from Japanese text and do deinflection. According to the wiki, this should be possible.

However, I'm not having any luck getting this to work. I've tried two different Japanese dictionaries (JMDict and Wiktionary) it's unusable. If I hold tap on the beginning of any word, most of the time, it doesn't open any dictionary. If it does, it only opens a dictionary entry for the first character of the word -- for instance, if I have 世界 in my text and hold click, it shows the entry for 世 not 世界. Sometimes if the word is in the page turn gesture area it just turns the page instead. I thought maybe there was just something wrong with my epubs but the same things happen on a txt file. It's just completely broken. The words don't highlight black like in English either.

Is Japanese support not working on 2025.10? Is there anything I can do to fix this? If it helps, I can record a video demonstrating the behavior. Thanks in advance.

Never mind, this was an issue in the build of KOreader shipped in nixpkgs. https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/467723
