I moved just copies of the already DeDRM'd .epubs and added them into Calibre 4.23 and they work perfectly on the spare reader and show up on the homepage.
I tried sending the books to the messed up reader from that PC too but the same issue persists. The other thing I noticed is that the Books area in the lower left doesn't update to show the new books. I did the Database check from Calibre 4.23 and it said ok, did the compression again anyway. The Filter Sorting under Books doesn't always work either, but the more I checked why, it only seemed an issue when sorting Books by date or recent. Then I finally thought to check the time... the battery on the problem reader is probably dying, the date was 2012. Once I fixed that and re-added the books, restarted the reader, it's finally behaving like it should. And finally connected another reader to Calibre 8.11.1 and sent books to it, and it's working fine. Yes, I'll be kicking myself in the arse even while I sleep tonight for that stupid mistake. And order a new battery in the morning. But 8.11.1 seems to be working with GloHD Firmware 4.23 just fine now. Thank you both for the help. |

This is the very first time anything weird like this has happened. And I'm pretty sure it's all related to the battery being so low that put the time at 2012 that I didn't notice. But I'll make a note of that version, if anything happens again, possibly the updated Calibre might make some differences there, I'll update to that version, thanks.

It was the 4.37 versions that had the corruption bug. Not any before 4.37 and not any 4.38 version either.

But then I need to update all the readers to it, and I'm sure there are some changes between the firmwares, some of which I may not like. So for me since everything still works perfectly and exactly as I want it, there's no reason to go with it either.
Coming to Kobo from Sony readers where there were probably 2 updates total, I've always really hated the constant updates from Kobo. I'm sticking with the one that makes me the happiest for my use. |

I don't recall when the highlighting changed for ePub, but in some firmware it did and it's now easier and faster. |

As luck would have it, the very last Glo HD I bought used did update to 4.38.23171 before I got around to swapping SDcards in it, so I did try it out for a bit. The only difference is being able to pinch text larger/smaller which I found annoying and disabled it. I read mention of Parental Control changes too, but again that's something I'd never have a need for.
So I saved myself the hassle of patching and then updating multiple readers for no reason and just put in a larger SDcard with all my books with 4.24.15676, I usually keep an extra SDcard laying around with it, plus a backup of the .img file on my PC just for ease. If it ain't broke... |
