Skim through a book?

Is there a way to skim through a book to decide whether to read it?
Like how you might in a library?

Tap the middle of the screen to open the menu, then tap anywhere on the progress bar to jump to that spot in the book and start reading at that point.

You can also hold down the page forward button to advance the pages quickly (like fast forward). Or open the table of contents and choose stuff from there.

Sane?? I cannot vouch for my own mental health!
Seriously though, I have noticed that some books show a list of chapters , whereas others do not, despite actually having chapters. Why?

The TOC is faulty, probably.

Some of us use the TOC editing feature in calibre to ensure our books have a working TOC.
