autosave plugin for sigil 2.5.2

Is there a plugin for autosave in Sigil Portable 2.5.2?

Plugins in Sigil need to be launched manually – whether it's selecting from a menu or clicking on an icon in the toolbar, you still have to click something. And if that's the case, it's the same as clicking "Save." Perhaps I don't understand what the AutoSave plugin would do, but Sigil doesn't have a feature that works completely "automatically."

Unfortunately, "autosave" is a feature I abhor. It is actually dangerous without a versioned storage behind it. It will not be coming to Sigil.

Often I am in the middle of editing something and it is not in a state that should be saved - especially over the top of the last version of the file I may still yet need to revert to! I have always strongly believed the user should be in full control of when to do a save.

Perhaps if you look in the Sigil User's Manual and read up on Sigil's CheckPoint feature that with a single click enables you to save multiple versions of your epub into a github like repository for later checkout.

If the reason you want "autosave" is because Sigil is crashing on you, then I strongly recommend you find what is on your system that is interfering with Sigil and fix it.

Crashes in Sigil are and should be really really rare. And based on a user-base of tens of thousands with no active crashing bug reports currently open, that is still true.

Any time a crashing bug is reported (and recreate-able) it is always fixed in the very next release of Sigil. If you are experiencing such bugs, please report them here with instructions on how to recreate the bug (or use our github issues for that).

I apologize, there are frequent power outages in my area, and my old laptop is out of battery. That's why I'm asking about an autosave plugin or similar feature. I use Sigil Portable.

No need to apologize for bad power. When I lived in the Tidewater area of Virginia the power regularly went out multiple times a day if even a little breeze happened. They never properly trimmed the branches over the lines.

Unless you buy a new battery or get a battery backup system, you will be vulnerable.

Do check out Sigil's Checkpoint feature. It is fast after the initial checkpoint. Then get into the habit of clicking that button regularly. It can save you and your work, with all prior versions available to be used. Really helpful if you inadvertently delete or change something.

I would recommend looking at a UPS as a solution. Even the smaller ones can keep your laptop running for more than long enough to save and do a clean shutdown. The one I am currently using is a CyberPower ST625U which I picked up on sale at Amazon Canada for $85 Cdn.
