In short: use a proper sized tablet for reading comics and PDF-files and use proper sized BW eInk devices for pure ebooks and you do fine.

Why I did choose TCL Nxtpaper 11? Because it was cheap, available and had the good anti-glare screen. And it is still receiving updates. Why I did not choose TCL Nxtpaper 14? Because the price was not right (for me), to big (heavy) and I do not read PDF-files that much to justify a purchase.

As always, YMMV.
Yep, I'll definitely stick to my Kobo Forma and Boox Page when it comes to novels.

It's only for comics and Manga that I am looking at the nxtpaper technology. Thanks for the feedback.

You can get most of the way there slapping one of those matte paperlike screen protectors on a random tablet.

If you have the opportunity to test a Kaleido 3 screen and form your own opinions I would. Yes, the contrast is worse than a B&W models but it's still readable in a variety of settings with the front light off IME. If you're not directly comparing between the two you stop noticing.

I somehow manage to read novels on my KLC without the front light anyways.
Thanks for your feedback. As I wrote just above, reading novels will be on my Forma or Page.

I have seen Kaleido 3 screens and the only drawback is the available sizes (and price). That's why I started looking at nxtpaper.

Kaleido 3 have more problems then size. Contrast is poor. It's not as clear/sharp as Carta 1200/1300. You need the backlight on more often. Weak colors. Lower resolution in color.

Kobo tends to iterate the bottom end ereaders in their lineup, and introduces new products with new names when they’re introducing a new format. Your 8” color ereader dream is as valid as any other speculation at this point.

Another source,, https://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/20...-likely-false/ mentions there is not a new model but just an update of existing ereaders...

Who knows?

Considering that Kobo uses Monza as the code name for the Libra Colour and Spa as the code name for the Clara Colour & HD and the FCC applications show the model numbers as N365B and N367B which match the model numbers for the Clara BW & Clara Colour respectively, logic suggests that these are refreshes for those two devices similar to the P365 variant of the Clara BW manufactured by Top Victory Electronics.
