Hi to All,
I am aware that this post might be better placed elsewhere and I would be grateful to anyone who moves it to a more appropriate position on the forum. My problem is simple: I need advice on downloading a font to my Kobo. The problem is that the font, Ev-Garamond, is apparently only available in "detail", that is, for example Ev-Garamond italic or EV-Garamond bold etc. and there is no "complete" collection or "font family" simply EV-Garamond which would include all the specific sub-types (bold, italic etc.). Now in the past when I have downloaded "detailed" fonts they remain separate on the Kobo and so I can only choose to have a whole book in, say, EV-Garamond bold or a whole book in EV-Garamond italic. So if I choose, EV-Garamond "regular" any italics or bold in the book will disappear. This is not satisfactory. There is undoubtedly a very simple solution to this, but I can't see it. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance. ![]() |

You edit the metadata of the font. I use FontForge for this.

Thank you, Sirtel, for this reply.
I am somewhat surprised to see that I have to go to the trouble of doing all this work on these fonts which were (as I understand it) especially developed for the Kobo? Why would the generous author not finish the work to make it easy to download the fonts directly for immediate use?? They are free to download on Github at this site (if I am allowed to give this address here?). https://github.com/nicoverbruggen/nv...eases/tag/v1.1 Am I to understand that they cannot be used directly at all? |

The font family is the same for all four font files: NV Garamond. They should work without any issue. |

Yes, PS67, I imagine they will work separately but my problem is how to install them so that they function "normally". I mean that the whole "family" (I don't know the technical term) will work.
A problem that I had in the past when I downloaded specific "members" of the "family", separately, I could not choose just "Garamond" for a book but as all "members" appeared separately in the options on Kobo, I had to choose, say Garamond bold or Garamond italic and the whole book would appear in this style. Choosing Garamond plain had the effect of eliminating all bold, italic or other styles from the book. I suspect that my explanation is not very clear unfortunately.... but what I want is for Kobo to allow me to choose the "family", say Garamond and for the application to apply the appropriate italic, bold etc according to the way the book was formatted... |

Well, I have solved the problem: or at least, the Kobo solved the problem for me! When I downloaded the four "members" of the Garamond family, Kobo automatically recognized them as members of the same family and created a Garamond file including all the members so that I could simply choose Garamond without imposing simply Garamond bold etc.
I'm sorry for wasting your time Sirtel and PS67. Thank you once again! |

Not sure why you think it's created a Garamond file. The four fonts are stored separately on your device. They all have the same internal Font Family so are just displayed with a single entry of NV Garamond in the Kobo font chooser.
