Rakuten Kobo Announces Plans for Instapaper Integration

TORONTO, ON – July 21, 2025 – Rakuten Kobo, a global leader in eReading, today announced that it is developing a new integration with Instapaper, the popular "read it later" service. The integration will provide Kobo readers with a seamless way to save and enjoy web articles directly on their Kobo eReaders, ensuring a continued distraction-free reading experience for long-form content, essays, recipes and more.

In partnership with Instapaper, Kobo is working diligently to bring this integration to its eReaders, with the aim of launching by the end of summer 2025. The new Kobo and Instapaper integration will take the place of Kobo’s previous integration with Pocket after that service is sunset in June 2025.

Glad that there will be a continuity of experience. Still sad that it seems like the end of an era. I was holding out hope that someone would swoop in to save Pocket at the last minute (especially since several companies voiced interest).

There is also the ability to export from Pocket and import to InstaPaper.

Was going to say, that method bypasses the whole step of needing to export, as it connects to Pocket and does it automatically.

Normally I'd be weary of allowing a competing service to access my account, but, hey, since Pocket is shut down, what can they do with it? They also offer a 3-month trial to their premium if you do the conversion.

The Instapeper integration has launched. It "went live" globally on August 28. They definitely met their by the end of the summer goal. I've never owned a Kobo. This is just one more thing that temps me to press the "buy" button on their site.

It's really great, I'll reading the https://www.paulgraham.com/articles.html one per day: the Instapaper features the availability to download each one and save it, being so easy.
Does anyone tried if it's possible to do the same, e.g. to read a book in that way from Internet Archieve, while using the premium (that allows PDF)?

Annoying that I can't highlight text or bookmark pages in Instapaper articles. The website says you get 5 free notes per month, but I don't see how to use them.

It works great: I just download articles and read them.

And then I delete them.

Simple.

No other requirements on my part.
