Adding an image
The epub here: https://tinyurl.com/yutylhqk
Has this HTML for an image: ---- <div style="text-align: center; padding: 0pt; margin: 0pt;"> <svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" height="100%" preserveAspectRatio="xMidYMid meet" version="1.1" viewBox="0 0 637 915" width="100%" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><image width="637" height="915" xlink:href="../Images/epub_cover_my_side_of_the_river_by_bill_fichtner.j pg"/></svg> </div> ----- When I add a new image from Insert>File, the HTML is this: <img alt="bill_and_his_wife_etta" src="../Images/bill_and_his_wife_etta.jpg"/> Why the difference? Thanks, WV-Mike |

The first is an image wrapped with svg. Insert->File does not wrap images with svg.

Is there a preferred way to add image files? I read the help file on this but could not see anything about svg wraps. Thanks, WV-Mike |

Yes using the Sigil Add Image tool bar/menu item. SVG wrappered images are typically used for full page images like the cover image.
Note: there are Sigil plugins that will insert svg wrapped images for full page images if you so desire. Last edited by KevinH; Yesterday at 01:30 PM. |

Thanks, Kevin.
I am curious about why the SVG wrap adds the image dimensions. WV-Mike |

So it can properly scale the image if you tell it to keep its aspect ratio.
Any image viewer on your machine should be able to give you the dimensions of the image. Or use Add Existing and add the image file to your epub in Sigil then double-click on it in Sigil's BookBrowser and the Image Tab that opens can give you the size as well as color depth and other information. |

I spent years always adding the image dimensions to my web pages and then along come smart phones and tablets, and I had to remove them all or they would not display properly.
I know ePubs are not webpages, but I was just wondering about that. Thanks. WV-Mike |
