Non-ebook Prime Day haul this year?

There was an existing thread for Prime Day and Prime Day-adjacent deals, but it didn't seem right to talk about our hauls there, so I created a topic here.

For me, it's been:
  1. Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV
  2. Samsung 990 PRO SSD

The Moccamaster has been on my wishlist for about a year and it was half-off, so I'm quite happy about that one. The SSD is to augment my PS5.

Both still cost a pretty penny in total, so I'm probably done for now.

Hi, I'm not too on knowledge about, also don't know if on PS5 that one is the only brand certified; but in general there is sometimes a misleading on names in tecnician details: e.g. the Samsung 990 PRO SSD, wich is a NVMe drive, officially explains its specs as using MLC tecnology, which stands for multi-level cell, however uses TLC tecnology (triple-level)...
So a NVME SSD using TLC could be less expensive, being still very good in long times too (instead of cheper QLC others)

Samsung has not yet made an official investigation, and there are only two possibilities that can be guessed, one is TLC flash memory,The 990 Pro uses Samsung’s 176-layer TLC flash memory (officially called 3bit MLC)It should be a very mature product, and there should be no problems with reliability.
Another possibility is the master control, 990 Pro upgrades Samsung’s self-developed Pascal master. There may be a bug in the algorithm, causing the health to plummet.

For Samsung, starting from the 980 Pro of the previous generation, the flash memory has also been replaced from MLC to TLC, and Samsung’s flagship SSD was originally one of the only benchmarks for MLC hard drives, but due to problems such as cost and production capacity, MLC flash memory has also gone. Never to return, TLC has become the mainstay, and QLC is even more popular.

Appreciate the heads up. I was debating between a Samsung 990 PRO and a WD Black SN850P. I ended up going with the Samsung because most people seemed to think it eked out slightly better performance, and the sale price put it below the SN850P, even with an included heat-sink. Multiple lists put the 990 Pro as compatible with the PS5, so it didn't seem worth paying an extra 30 bucks just to get an SSD that has a "PS5 certified" sticker on it.

On the link it seems not mentioned, just for further's looks, imho the Sabrent Rocket may be fine, too (checking compatibilities, etc...), link on Amazon's

Ps: sorry for this OT, but this was a beaty:
Code:
Once upon a midnight dreary, as I typed another query

Seeking many a quaint and curious fact of hidden Drive Stats lore—

While I waited, time advancing, suddenly the stats came dancing

Lines of empty datasets; the database had nothing more

“Is that right?” I muttered, “The database had nothing more—

So those drives, I must explore.”

Ah, distinctly I remember, it was just past this September

I requested failure rates of Seagate drives with terabytes of four

Eagerly I typed the query, even though my eyes were bleary

The count of Seagate fours was eerie, eerie; there was nothing more.

The sad and certain count screamed like it never had before;

No Seagate drives with terabytes of four.

Presently I checked the tables, the data must be full of fables;

There are missing rows, I’m certain, and files waiting to explore.

The reality I kept dismissing, the Seagate data must be missing

With hours gone to data fishing, the facts shook me to the core;

The spinning life is over for our Seagate drives with terabytes of four—

Those Seagate drives are nevermore.

(My apologies to Edgar Allen Poe.)

(They have nice benchmarks, but for HDD only, if I recall it correctly)

Mostly boring stuff for me.

Arch support insoles
reading glasses
Koss Porta Pro headphones (to replace the 20 year old pair I accidentally stepped on)
Some water bottles
Etc.

I suggest you get yourself some Yaxi pads for your Porta Pro. They really do make the Porta Pro shine. I have some and they are very nice, Plus, they are more comfortable.

Already done. Plus, they make the headphones easier to find in a cluttered audio drawer.

Very small list for me, I was originally planning to avoid Prime Days altogether but a couple of things went on irresistible sale:
  • AirPods Max - I've been contemplating these for over a year but not willing to pay list price. When they dropped to $399 at midnight I grabbed a set
  • My favorite nail polish - there's a particular brand of "indie" nail polish I like and it never goes on sale except for Black Friday. Their Amazon listings were 5% off which isn't much, but enough to justify ordering 4 colors that were on my wish list.
