Identifiers in details page
Is there a reason why I have Amazon and Amazon.com for identifiers both pointing to Amazon?

Where do I do that? I am assuming you mean that there are Amazon.com and Amazon identifiers in the tags browser, but there isn't an Amazon.com just Amazon.
No it's in Calibre or the metadata plugin for Calibre SOMEWHERE because it just fairly recently happened (within past 6 months) and it is happening in EVERY library where there is an Amazon id. If there is an Amazon id, there is both an Amazon and Amazon.com in the details field. I figured it out. the Mobi-Asin that comes in with an imported Kindle shows as Amazon.com - even if there is no Amazon id (which comes when the edit metadata pulls an Amazon id regardless of it being ASIN, Mobi-ASIN or other). I guess it makes sense. Ok. Last edited by Rellwood; 05-02-2025 at 10:35 PM. Reason: Figured out the probem, won't fix. |

Because you installed the amazon.com third party metadata plugin probably.

What is in the Metadata edit panel? FWIW - For me, books with Amazon.com in Book details are in the Amazon entry in Tag browser, whereas books with Amazon.uk in Book details are in the Amazon.uk entry in Tag browser. BR |

You know for the life of me, I cannot articulate exactly how "Amazon.com" and "Amazon" in the book details page is confusing. IF there is a "mobi-asin" from a Kindle book import, automatically without even doing a metadata download the book details page has "Amazon.com" and the tag browser identifier shown when hovering over the "Amazon.com" link shows "amazon" even if there is NO specific Amazon id - it's just the mobi-asin. NOW - if I download the metadata and pull an "Amazon" identifer which may or may not be the mobi-asin (isbn10 or isbn13 can be pulled) there is now a new "Amazon" idenfifier in the tag browser AND the details page. HOWEVER - if there is still that mobi-asin identifier the "Amazon.com" link in the details page STILL points to "Amazon" - and will no longer point to the mobi-asin. If I choose to drop the Amazon.com identifier showing in the details page, it will drop the "Amazon" identifier and still show the "Amazon.com" identifier. I know I am bumbling this. I understand that "Amazon", "Mobi-asin" and "Asin" are all likely the same exact id but can easily be three different id's but in any and all cases a "mobi-asin" is ALWAYS an Amazon id because mobi-asin is the only id shown when downloading a kindle book from Amazon. I give up. I can't even parse this and it isn't a huge big deal. It's just that both "Amazon" and "Amazon.com" point to the same "Amazon" identifier if there IS an "Amazon" identifier or "Amazon.com" will point to the "Mobi-asin" identifier BUT say it's the "Amazon" identifier. If there ends up being an "Amazon" identifier BOTH the "Amazon" and "Amazon.com" links in the details page point to the same "Amazon" in the tags browser and the mobi-asin is now ignored. Two identifiers in the details panel pointing to the same "Amazon" id in the tag broswer. Again, I don't know where I am going with this, or if this even makes sense, but there you have it. I had noticed this a while ago but never bothered to troubleshoot.
Here's an example: Note that I have a third-party plugin (Amazon Multiple Countries), but this still doesn't explain the Amazon dupe identifiers... ![]() |

Hmm, I just noticed that when I have the actual Amazon Multiple Countries identifier (amazon_br), it also shows duplicated in BD. Perhaps something related to the identifiers' link rules?

For what it may be worth, I do not have the multi-country Amazon plugin installed. OTOH, I do have the stock Amazon.com but I've set the country to Canada and the servers to Amazon servers. If I have an amazon:ASIN identifier for the book, after a metadata download, most of the times it now shows as amazon_ca:ASIN.

Once as amazon.ca. I had to turn on showing identifiers to see them since I normally do not display identifiers in Book details.

Do you have any rules set in "Create identifier rules"? I suspect the dupe displaying happens in this case only (must have some rule set)

No, the linked identifiers I have added are not Amazon.
I don't know if setting the amazon plugin to use the mobi-asin or to search for all editions causes changes, but I am using the Amazon us servers and don't have any specific amazon around the country plugins added |

Do you have both mobi-asin and amazon IDs?
