Issue with "Edit book" not opening kepubs

I've created a kepub using "convert books", I checked in the library that the kepub was there and had been successfully converted. --lots of spans
There is however a problem viewing with "edit book", if I select to open the kepub not the epub then its actually opens the epub file -- no spans.
Note: Sending the kepub to the device works ok.

spans (and all kobo markup) is autoremoved when editing and auto re-inserted when saving the KEPUB. If you want to see the spans rename the file to have a .epub extension and then open it with the editor.

Thanks for the explanation.
I was hoping to use the editor to move trailing spaces from the end of a span.
Is there any hope of the kepub conversion doing this in the near future?

Why bother? Don't they normally get ignored (standard space)?

That's disapointing, I was under the impression you were going to move trailing spaces to the start of the next span. I seem to remember you saying that would be easy.
