Kobo Series Information
Hi, I'm a long time user of Calibre, loved it from my first ereader
![]() I send my books the the device (Kobo Sage) with a plugboard so the title shows as Series Name Series Number Title (plugboard {series}{series_index:0>2| | }{title}) Then, previously I know I have turned off the series information on the device so the title would display using the the first two lines above the author - but now it has started truncating the title on the first line, shows series information on the second and author still on the third - examples below: WANTED Behavoiur Jack Reacher 11 Bad Luck and Trouble Lee Child CURRENT UNWANTED Behaviour Jack Reacher 11 Bad Luck and..... JACK REACHER - 11 Lee Child I've tried all the preferences, plugins (although I did used to use Kobo Touch Extended but it's gone and won't let me install it now) and the only way I've found to stop it from showing the series information is to remove a book and resend it. As I have 6k books on there, removing/adding them all would take forever, can anyone point me to an easier way to do this? Fingers crossed and thanks in advance, Liz |

I use native Kobo Series settings (works with the by Series menu on Kobos)
found on Configure device (when connected) I don't use the Plugboard for either of my Kobos. |

Hi, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, those settings would still truncate titles over a fixed numberof characters, I'd prefer them to rollover to the second. Oh well, if I have to remove all the books and re-add, it won't be the first time, lol, just trying to save myself hours of time

To the best of my knowledge, if you use the native Kobo / Calibre series settings this does NOT get truncated. This does not require any plugboards; about the only settings I'm aware of that would need changing is Calibre Preferences | Sending Books to devices | Metadata Management set to Automatic. And of course series info present in the standard Calibre Series column.
When content is initially sent to the Kobo and the Kobo is disconnected from calibre, the new content will be processed on the Kobo; on the next connection to calibre the series info will be transferred and will then be displayed on the Kobo. |

Hi, Thank you for the reply, I think what has happened is during one of Calibre/plugin updates, my device settings have reverted to the native Kobo/Calibre (Set Series Information ticked) and as you have said, the series information has then been transferred to the device.
I don't know if all the Kobos use the same book display format, but on mine each book has a cover image, then three lines: First Line = Book Title (modded via plugboard or not) Second Line = **** Bottom Line = Author On my device: Using the native setting with Set Series Information ticked, sets the second line to be Series Information - if the title is longer than the space available on line 1 it is then truncated If I stop using the native settings (untick Set Series Information), the second line is then available for the remainder of my title. My personal preference is to include the series in the plugboard title, not use the 'Set Series Information' but be able to see the entire title as it rolls over to line 2 - unfortunately, while the series information gets transferred on connecting the device, it does not seem able to undo it without removing/readding all the books. Thank you both for the replies, I appreciate the efforts ![]() |
