There could be any number of problems.
It could be going to 9008 and you're not seeing it. I would trust the cable with the micro USB tail on it because it must be V1. But I don't know for a fact that the TabMiniC does do D+ (V1) detection. Onyx could have pulled it. |

Well, that's what I wrote so I am unanimous in it.
![]() If your device has buttons there is also holding down buttons while it reboots. A manufacturer can put whatever trickery they like in. I've seem where you have to tap the top left and top right corners alternately. I've seen where you have to send more than 50 (but less than 100) VT-100 backspaces to a UART. They can also remove any shortcuts. If you're really getting nowhere, you can open the case. But I've seen both trivially easy and very sneaky EDL test points. |

I tried installing 3.5.4 Global firmware onto Tab8C running V4.0 chinese firmware. I used the built in recovery. It said the package is older, so no going back. I guess there is anti rollback

Not sure if I should make a new post or reply here, but I figured I'd keep it all together. I was looking to flash my tab8c to the global rom. I was following this and tried to pull the API for 4.0 firmware and it doesn't seem to work. Does anyone know if this is still accessible or if you can even still flash global rom to the Tab8C?

I apologize for the double post, it wouldn't let me edit. I did figure out my error in the API. I didn't have capital letters in the correct places. Here is the link for anyone who needs it.
http://data.onyx-international.cn/api/firmware/update?where={%22buildNumber%22:0,%22buildType%22: %22user%22,%22deviceMAC%22:%22%22,%22lang%22:%22en _US%22,%22model%22:%22TabMiniC%22,%22submodel%22:% 22%22,%22fingerprint%22:%20%22%22} I am still curious if it's safe to flash Tab8C with TabMiniC firmware. Will I need to root to do this? Would hate to brick my device. |

When doing anything radical it makes sense to use EDL to make a full, raw backup.
Ok, with large device sizes today that might take 30 minutes and make a file of 128 GB. Important! Never "wipe" the user data or "factory reset". That would invalidate any backup that you had previously made. |
