Tip to create a Collection on unregistered Kindle paperwhite 2024.

Twice, when tapping the three dots on a book sent from Calibre, the option to create a collection appeared. However, it has only happened twice, and despite repeating the process several times, it hasn’t appeared again. This is on a 2024 Paperwhite that is not registered with Amazon.

Has this happened to anyone else? Do you know how to reproduce it or figure out why the option to create a collection appears sometimes?, even though, as you know, it is a disabled feature on an unregistered Kindle.

Well finally i found how to made it 100%
1.-Look for a book
2.-In the page of looking for, press three dots, and erase it, the in the looking for page (the book don't disappear from the looking for page after erase it), press againg three dots and vuoala you can see the create collection option

It's just easier to register and then keep WiFi off. There is no reason (IMHO) to not register.

do you also know by any chance, how to make translation function work on an unregistered kindle? not the dictionary translation which translates only one word but the one that translates the whole sentence?

and also the wikipedia function
also unlocking it would be great

Well, after your registration, you don't need to keep wifi off. Even if you use a fake name your OS (Amazon) will know your password, your location, and all of your personal data based on multiple databases, your internet provider (or it could even triangulate you by observing the signal strength of your neighbors' Wi-Fi). Your OS could call home every 5 seconds to tell them how things are going with you.

Perhaps it would be best not to use Amazon devices, as they are the ones who have the least respect for their users.

Going by what one acquaintance said about his Boyue ereader and it's habit of calling home, Amazon does not seem like a real contender for the least respect for their users. It's data dumps calling home were encrypted but massive from his Wireshark captures of the data passing through his wireless router. The connections seem to be to addresses geolocated in China but with little to no information available using the standard tools such as WhoIs.

While I'm no fan of Amazon, that is nowhere near true.

Translation and wikipedia are only available if you're registered, I'm pretty sure. Unless you have a model that can be jailbroken, in which case you can use KOReader to do all those things. But that's not possible if your firmware version is 5.18.1 or higher.

With the release of 5.18.4 which patches the exploit which will be used by the next generation jailbreak, 5.18.3 and below will have a jailbreak fairly soon. If you have a new enough device that it received 5.18.1 or higher and could receive the 5.18.4 update, either fill the storage or keep it offline until then.
