servername "KOBOeReader" does not work for ftp. The IP-adress does work. What am I doing wrong?

Unless you have a DNS server with an entry to translate KOBOeReader to the IP address, you will need to use the IP address.

This has nothing to do with the credentials.

Or the name in a "hosts" file your device has and actually uses.

I'm trying to log in via Telnet using admin:admin but I get "Login incorrect". What's the new login for firmware 4.42.23296?

There are no Telnet credentials. You can use SSH (rename the ssh-disabled file in .kobo to ssh-enabled). The login name is root and you will need to set the password on your first connection. For me, the password was not being saved so I use the passwd command to change and save the password.

How did you run the passwd command? Also I'm trying root but it's not letting me set the password. I just get the password prompt instead.

When I logged in using SSH, I was prompted to set the password. I entered it twice and I was logged in. The next time, I got the same set the password, entered it twice and then used passwd to set it again which seemed to set it properly.

If the root password was set elsewhere (during a Telnet session or whatever), it's likely to be needed to log in.

I ssh’d into my KLC just fine, and followed your advice to run passwd, but I can’t FTP. Has this been removed as well, or is there another protocol that I should be using?

I tested my FTP connection from a Windows command line and it connected, allowed me to login, etc. I used NickelMenu to toggle FTP on using port 1021.
