Does this firmware give LCP support on Kobo?

Given how slow it is on the newer models I have trouble seeing 5.XX releasing on the Freescale devices but let's wait and see.

The spa-tpv-bw item likely refers to the Kobo Clara BW P365.

The good news for those who do not want the 5.10.225240 firmware is that under Accessibility, you can revert to the old firmware.

Even if you could install them, NickelMenu, NickelClock etc won't work anyway, because they're only built for the Qt5 in FW 4.x, not the Qt6 in FW 5.x.

One of these days, I want to figure out Yocto to get a toolchain up and running to upgrade the Nickel* mods.

I just found out that a couple of the most annoying issues were fixed in Kobo mode. Letter spacing is much better here! A huge improvement.

I experimeted with the Kobo 4.x firmware as well. It does indeed use an older version of RMSDK than 5.x and won’t apply the CSS stylesheet when it finds an incompatible command. Kinda stupid that it opens all epubs in RMDSK. Epub3 should definitely only be opened with the Kepub renderer. It’s as simple as renaming the file from x.epub to x.kepub.epub

I like the font rendering in 5.x better than in 4.x’s kepub renderer. It looks very sharp on the device. Even Times New Roman and Garamond EB look OK without any additional weight (this feature is still broken, btw. the slider just switches between bold and regular)

Full page floated images still are a mess in 5.x. In 4.x (kepub renderer) they're fine. It's funny, because float is definitely supported. Yet I still get a large white space on the page before the image. And a line of text underneath the image. I have yet to figure out why this happens. Images in SVG wrappers do scale in Kobo mode now—another great improvement that is not available in Tolino mode.

Unfortunately Kobo mode is even slower than Tolino mode. It can take several seconds to flip a page. Both are much slower than 4.x, which feels really snappy.

On the plus-side, books re-open faster in Kobo mode. Opening them the first time is as slow as in Tolino mode.

The problem is that you need the spans in order for KePub to work properly. ePub does not have them so while it appears to works, it does not fully work.

It renders the books just fine. I see no obvious reason why the Kebub renderer can’t be used here.
