How can I update the book on the device without re-sideloading it?

I already have the book on the device and am about half way through it. I found plenty of grammar mistakes on the book and have already corrected it on Calibre library. So I was wondering if I can update the book on the device without having re-sideload it onto the device so I won't lose bookmarks and annotations. I'm aware of the KoboUtilities extension on Calibre. From what I've seen it doesn't let you update a book for my case. Any help is appriciated!

This has nothing to do with Kobo Utilities.

In calibre, go to Preferences > Plugins. Search for KoboTouch. If you are using the KoboTouch plugin, select it and click Customize plugin. Go to the Collections, covers & uploads tab. Check Do not treat replacements as new books. If you are using the KoboTouchExtended plugin, do the same thing.

It will allow you to send the eBook to your Kobo without it being treated as a new eBook. The only time you need to use Kobo Utilities is if you've changed the ToC and need the ToC updated on your Kobo after you've side loaded the eBook.

You can use Kobo Utilities to read existing bookmarks etc. Extra columns are needed for reading position and status which can be written back.
You can save bookmarks & annotations, but I don't think it writes them back, I might be wrong.

In any case if a book has changed the locations may be wrong.

Even if TOC hasn't changed it might not work. Also cover may vanish unless you reboot Kobo after update.

Not true. There are several reasons why you might use Kobo Utilities, replace the ebook and use Kobo Utilities again.

However your idea can be tried if the Kobo Utilities are used first to backup the info.

Sorry, but wrong. Kobo Utilities has nothing to do with replacing the eBook unless you need to update the ToC. Also, why are you repeating what I've just posted? The cover will not vanish. That's never happened with a replaced eBook. No need to reboot. Please don't confuse the OP with incorrect information.

I've seen the issues after doing exacting what you have suggested. Obviously only reboot if the cover does vanish, then it returns.

I've had a Kobo since the release of the Aura H2O. I've never had the cover vanish. The only time you may need to reboot due to the cover is if you change the cover after the eBook was originally sent to the Kobo.
