DRM workaround: Kindle for Android

You can use an older version of K4PC to get eBooks published prior to April 22, 2025. You can use Stats method with the current K4PC for eBooks published April 22, 2025 and later. But Stats method requires you to do it for every eBook you download with the new K4PC.

Another option is to go to Shop Goodwill and bid on a Kindle Touch. When I got a Kindle Touch from Shop Goodwill, there was no bidding.

ebay lists a number of Kindle Touch and Kindle Keyboards at around $30. Since the condition of the screen doesn't much matter for this use, you might as well pick the cheapest working one.

One friend of mine just went for a Paperwhite 5th generation (the first Paperwhite model) off eBay (seller confirmed that it was not blacklisted). After it arrived, we did a reset to clean it up, registered it and they're a happy camper now. $35 Cdn, came with a case, the screen is pretty clean though the frontlight is not the greatest.

Sats, not Stats. And, to clarify, every *time* you download new books. (You shouldn't need to do something for each book if you're downloading more than one at a time.)

I'm a tech dummy, 90% of the posts here are like chinese for me. So could you explain it for me, where you had the KFX input and how you could make the backups. that is also all what I want to do, since I have a german A-account (for my mum) and an US A-account, I am using.

I don’t understand why nobody else thought of such a simple idea.

I don’t have any Kindle eBooks with the "super-strong" KFX DRM, so I can’t comment to that.

As I wrote in another post, I'm a technic dummy. What is the LDPlayer 9? the rest I understand, I think. I was using before Bluestack and it worked soooo great, after it took me 2 days to get it running. So I hope, that is something, I could also get to work with. And it's still only working for purchased books, correct? (which is, what I use most anyway)

LDPlayer 9 is an Android emulator. See https://www.ldplayer.net/ for more information and downloads. For me, using K4A is no longer a useful workaround since it results in KFX format ebooks. The advantage to BlueStacks was the version used had a glitch that had Amazon delivering KF8/azw3 format ebooks.

For the account with the Paperwhite, use books from there. Much easier than Kindle for Android.

0. Assuming:

• You have the following plugins for Calibre:
  • KFX Input
  • AZW6 Image Merge [not sure if this one's critical or not]
  • DeDRM 10.0.9
• You were able to get the K4A key from K4A APK v. 4.16.0.75 and have it loaded into the DeDRM plugin

1. Export all the files in the folder for the book to a folder on your computer.
2. Open the folder and select all the files.
3. Right-click the selected files and select "Compress to..." -> "ZIP File".
4. Rename the .zip file extension to .kfx-zip
5. Drag that .kfx-zip into Calibre
6. Enjoy a DeDRM'd book published after April 22, 2025 in full color (as applicable). Output is KFX format but you can convert it as normal to other formats.

Believe you need the alpha version of DeDRM in order to load the K4A key. At least that used to be the case. And, you're right, probably don't need AZW6 Image Merge since AZW6 files go with AZW3.
