What did they do? Did they put the ballot in box for him, or lift the box down?

While the three scrutineers watched, the staff member lifted the box from the table and placed it so he could put his ballot in it. After which, the box was placed back on the table. As mentioned, no one seemed to have any issues with this.

Phew. That was LUCK. I noticed this mornig that my vision was the PITS; almost as if I didn't have the contact lens in place; double checked the case and yes, I had applied it this morning. I was feeling a small amount of irritation that normally means it's moved.

Tried peering into the eye with the the selfie lens of my phone; no go. Tried feeling through the eye lid for the errant lens; no go.

Got a spare lens and started rehydrating it while thinking maybe I should call my optometrist and head down town to get them to find the darned thing.

Suddenly; I CAN SEE AGAIN! Obviously, my blinking, tearing up etc was sufficient to help the lens move to the correct location

(I must add that my wife had become skilled over the years at peering into my eye and finding it, and also at gently sliding the lens on the eye. Not sure if I trust the friends I'm staying with to try that).

Have I ever mentioned how much I hate my eye!

Why not glasses so this cannot ever happen?

Jon; I suffer from an eye condition called keracotonus (KC) which is basically cone shaped eyes. This leads to severe astigmatism and the standard approach to it the use of rigid-gas-permeable contact lenses (RGP).

KC also leads to thinning of the cornea at the tip of the cone which can lead to tearing of the cornea.

This coupled with the fact I've had cataract surgery on both eyes and the loss of vision in the right eye due to complications from treatment for floaters related to diabetic retinopathy makes the fitting of glasses a real challenge.

With the technology we have today, why can't we put an end to the obnoxious, late-inning, empty-park, drunk heckler?

RGPs are the only real solution for this. My right eye isn't as bad as you're describing, but there's just enough astigmatism to have me wearing an RGP in that eye. Frustrating at times, with only one lab still making them in Canada, and they've just moved to the East Coast.
