Ah, but you did notice that I said "121 books purchased/freebies/ARC/etc. and read" in April so I am reading those books and not simply adding to Mount TBR or indulging in an ebook variant of tsundoku. Yes, it was a good month for reading since babysitting my youngest granddaughter gave a lot of time when she was napping and I was reading and enjoying free coffee.

As DNSB says, it's fine to buy if you're also reading what you buy and don't have a massive TBR pile.
The main indication of a problem is a growing TBR pile (that is, ebooks bought but not yet read). |

Just putting this here for a chuckle. My wife picked up a $0.99 ebook today after she read somewhere that the author is pretty decent. I got a laugh out of the title of the downloaded ebook on import to calibre:
Fall I Want: A Heartwarming, Spicy Small-Town Romance Featuring a Billionaire's Unexpected Love, Fake Relationships, and Autumn Magic—Perfect for Fans ... Spice Café (Cozy Creek Collection Book 1) Nothing like 196 characters for the title of a book! ![]() |

This tip probably not work for everyone, but I found that since I buy mostly from Kobo, I can ration purchases more easily if I buy gift cards and add to store credit.

I have been using credit card reward points as my book budget; back before the Kindle DRM mess it was extremely easy to just "buy with reward points" right from the book detail page. Now it takes a couple extra steps to check my reward points, buy the book, convert reward points to credit on my card. I buy from multiple ebook stores so just getting repeated gift cards is a less feasible option for me although I'll still grab one if I find a deal. |

Getting close to finishing the 2024 backlog, too. "Other" is the local pharmacy. They had discounted cozy mysteries in a bin. |

After a mini-binge in February and March and one more purchase in April, I didn't buy anything in May or June. Feels good to be back on the wagon. And I'm going to pat myself on the back for having read five of the seven books I've bought so far this year and started a sixth (which is more of a reference book, so I hope to keep chipping away at it).
My TBR is down 23 on the year so far. |

Nope, my last month was about par for the course. Even while I was vacationing in Europe, I was getting notified by eReaderIQ about deals I had on my watchlist, and needed to grab.

So I think, do I REALLY want this book right away? I started doing this last month and it's really cut down on the purchases. |

I'm still not free of binge buying but doing much better. Even my member's sale purchases at Audible resulted in quite a major drop in new books compared to my usual and most were Inspector Maigret so short. I talked myself out of getting the entire collection ($80-90 at $1-2 per book) until I've listened to those I have. My wish list is so short now - almost run out of audio books to buy. Doing better with restricting ebook purchases.
On the positive side, I managed to increase my reading/listening last month. Been in a bit of a rut with family issues, but concentration is up. |
