I only buy books on sale as well, but I've still given Kobo hundreds of dollars over the years, and I don't expect Rakuten to pay me for doing so. Would it be nice? Sure, but I don't need it. The deals are already excellent as they are.

For what it's worth, there is again a Rakuten credit card, a few years after they discontinued the old Visa one. This time it's an "American Express", but issued by Imprint Bank, which seems to be one of those digital-only, store-brand issuers that get a rap (deserved or not) for being really hard to deal with, and mostly interested in making as much as they can off late fees and interest on balances. It offers 4% back at Rakuten stores, including Kobo.

I'm debating whether to get the card. I'm quite good at not being late and not carrying a balance

. But I had such an awful time several years ago with a Sony card from Synchrony Bank, another store-brand issuer, that I'm not sure it's worth it to get 4%. OTOH, I do buy a lot of e-books from Kobo, and it's good at some other stores too.

As ownedbycats says, you can just use your account email address for both sender and recipient. It's what I've done for all the times I've taken up this offer this year.

(I still have £70 credit at Kobo, so I won't be taking up the offer this time.)
