You could try the REI Co-op Rainier Rain Jacket. See REI Mens Rain Jackets. I picked up one on sale at their store in Bellingham on a trip to the USA. Another choice might be the Arc'teryx Beta which my daughter-in-law purchased for my son as a present last Christmas. It replaced his Helly Hanson rain jacket as a lighter and easier to move in jacket. OTOH, he loves it for the Grouse Grind.
The rant part comes when you start looking at what some people call rain jackets. One my DIL looked at was basically a garbage bag with arm and neck holes. Kinda like the emergency ponchos I ended up wearing at some music festivals. |

One of my pet peeves is the use of "rate of speed" by the police.

When used in baseball, exit velocity refers to the rate and direction of the ball leaving the bat, not just the rate/speed it's moving.

One is my winter jacket and the other works well as a rain coat. It's a fairly lightweight coast with a hood. It is lined with the silver space lining to keep you comfortable. Last edited by JSWolf; 09-19-2024 at 03:54 PM. |

When were comparative and superlative adjectives banned, by whom were they banned, and under what authority. Sick of more this and most that, instead of thiser and thatest

How does it involve direction when it's only ever given in MPH? The launch angle is a separate statistic. It's worthless to the average human watching as well.

Without knowing (or caring) anything about the specifics of baseball, the direct answer could possibly be that it pertains to one implicit vector, like the rate at which ball covers ground distance regardless of angle up or down. Or vice versa. It often turns out that these speed vs velocity disagreements come down to whether one counts an assumed direction in the definition or not.

To my knowledge, exit velocity has only ever been the speed of the ball immediately after it leaves the bat. They're definitely using the term "velocity" incorrectly -- it should be exit speed (just one more reason I hate hearing announcers use the term).
MLB defines it thusly: Quote:
