Chronicles of the Black Company by Glen Cook is £1 in the UK (Kobo, Amazon)
This is an omnibus of the first sequence, comprising of The Black Company, Shadows Linger, and The White Rose.
Quote:
Darkness wars with darkness as the hard-bitten men of the Black Company take their pay and do what they must. They bury their doubts with their dead.

Then comes the prophecy: The White Rose has been reborn, somewhere, to embody good once more…

OTOH, I didn't pick up this book since I picked it up on sale back in 2018.

Senlin Ascends (The Books of Babel Book 1) by Josiah Bancroft is $3 at Amazon, B&N and Kobo US.

I've been watching a series of YouTube reviews of this series and am very intrigued.

Quote:
The first book in the word-of-mouth phenomenon debut fantasy series about one man's dangerous journey through a labyrinthine world.

"One of my favorite books of all time" -- Mark Lawrence**

The Tower of Babel is the greatest marvel in the world. Immense as a mountain, the ancient Tower holds unnumbered ringdoms, warring and peaceful, stacked one on the other like the layers of a cake. It is a world of geniuses and tyrants, of luxury and menace, of unusual animals and mysterious machines.

Soon after arriving for his honeymoon at the Tower, the mild-mannered headmaster of a small village school, Thomas Senlin, gets separated from his wife, Marya, in the overwhelming swarm of tourists, residents, and miscreants.

Senlin is determined to find Marya, but to do so he'll have to navigate madhouses, ballrooms, and burlesque theaters. He must survive betrayal, assassins, and the illusions of the Tower. But if he hopes to find his wife, he will have to do more than just endure.

This quiet man of letters must become a man of action.
The review I watched

Senlin Ascends is the start of a fun series that has quite a few discussions on youtube (Sagas and Sass, The Library of Allenxandria and his friends' channels)

The following books in the series are stronger than the first, because they expand the cast of characters, so even if you aren't wowed, and think the protagonist is boring, keep on reading.

It's an interesting one, Senlin Ascends. It rose up via the Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off (SPFBO) constest, where it actually failed to make the final, narrowly losing out to the more traditional (and also good fun) The Path of Flames by Phil Tucker (which itself didn't win the overall contest). The original reviews by pornokitsch intrigued a lot of people, including Mark Lawrence who hosts the competition, and who ended up championing the book and helping it get a trad publication.

Anyway, I liked it, and am willing to add my personal recommendation, even though I fell off the series when it went tradpub and haven't read the third and fourth books yet. I think Bancroft also writes poetry, and it shows in the careful use of language.

The list is incomplete. If you go to the S&S UK site, there are more listed books (81). Most are £0.99 and some are £1.99. It's best to look at the list from S&S and then buy from where you want be it Kobo, eBooks.com, or Amazon. The advantage to not buying from Amazon is you get these eBooks in ePub and on eBooks.com and Kobo, you can travel to the UK to buy the eBooks you want.
