I love music even more than I love reading and I've taught myself to focus on music. I don't play music unless I'm just listening to it. Having it in the background would just teach me to ignore it and I don't want to do that to myself. I even avoid restaurants with background music whenever possible.

I guess if you're not a real music lover but think of music as part of your decoration that might be different.
