Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection (c.1611-1691) was a 17th century French Carmelite monk. Of humble origins, he was a soldier and a footman before entering the religious life at the age of 55.
After ten years peeling potatoes he found a method of remaining close to God while doing monastic chores.
His writings influenced Fénelon and Madame Guyon.
