Okay, WLAN works now after starting it once in Nickel.

Which /etc/init.d/rcS are we talking about?
NIckel or Debian?
The Debian one is nearly empty:

The Nickel one does not have eink_enable_autoupdate in it neither. Not does Debian's rc.
