I'm not sure that we have conventions, but yes, that's a possibility to have a Sticky in the forum thread.
As there is some site design going on, which will later take a look at integration with the wiki, it's hard to say this early what will be the best way to handle it. But you are exactly right at the target -- we want to collect and make it easy to find the most helpful info, especially for new visitors.
As we move forward with changes (eventually), we'll definitely be appreciative of your input as you see how things shape up!
