Rees, Arthur J.: The Shrieking Pit. PDF formatted for Sony Reader. 31 August, 2007.

This is my first MobileRead post & first upload. I just recently noticed that there's a forum here for miscellaneous formats including PDF. This is a PDF formatted for the Sony Reader (page size 3.47 x 4.54 inches), produced from a Project Gutenberg plain text ebook with LaTeX and XeTeX.

The Shrieking Pit, by Arthur J. Rees, is a detective novel published in 1919. It receives favorable mention in Barzun and Taylor's Catalogue of Crime; they call it a "first-rate novel of the length and pace customary at the time of its writing, but distinguished from its fellows by an absolutely steady forward march through a variety of clues and contradictions." It isn't a horror story; the title, again to quote the Catalogue, "betokens only a neat use of superstition."
