I remember the ads on the back page of the Sunday supplement newspaper magazines when I was a kid of how you can buy this fine hardback library volume of Zane Grey for just five cents as long as you agree to buy a lot more over the next year at $4.95 plus S&H. What surprised me then (and what I remember about it now) was that most of the ad talked about how impressive the books would look on your shelves and not about the quality of the writings or that anyone would ever want to read the books.
Maybe this is why ebooks are so hard to sell, they don't look impressive lined up on a shelf.
