3. Export it as a universal ePub
4. Until Apple fixes this, tweak the eBook paragraphs in Sigil.

If the writer only wants to publish to Amazon KDP, then I agree. These steps work
1. Write your manuscript in Word (use a KDP template)
2. Save as a PDF
3. Upload the PDF to KDP

Your first set of steps is going to make some really messy code. Unless you know how to use Word with styles, you are going to export messy code. Pages makes messy code of ePub. This will take a long time to fix in Sigil. Yes it can be done, but it will be a lot of work. Best solution is to export the book as plain text from Word and then import it into Sigil. You can edit the text easier in Sigil then you can the mess you have from Word/pages.

As for PDF, that's the worst source there is. The only way to convert from PDF to anything useful is to pick a program to convert the PDF to ePub. Then take the ePub and you have to compare that to the PDF. You have to compare every space, every word, every punctuation mark, everything. Then you'll be good to go.

All you are doing is making life miserable for yourself. Learn to make life easier for yourself and you'll be good to go.
