Werner, Abraham Gottlob: New Theory of the Formation of Veins. V. 1, 15 Oct. 2010

Abraham Gottlob Werner (September 25, 1749 – June 30, 1817) was a German geologist who developed an early theory, Neptunism, about the origin of rocks and minerals of the Earth's crust. He was, by far, the most influential geologist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. His extraordinary abilities as a lecturer attracted students from all over Europe to what had been an obscure mining academy in Freyberg, Germany. Although Werner's Neptunism model for the Earth has now been largely discounted, his theory ignited widespread geological efforts to prove or disprove it, and thus quickly led to more correct models for the geologic sciences.

This book, published in German in 1791 and as an English translation in 1809, was one of probably only two published by Werner. The epub also includes an 1811 British Review of the book.
