App check for updates?

In the iOS, I open the App Store every few days, and it tellls me which apps need to be updated and what changed, and I can select them to download if I wish.

How do I do this on Android? Should I have recorded where each app came from and do I need to check manually? (I don't even remember which were preloaded ...)
