Spielmann, Mabel H.: The Rainbow Book illus-Rackham et al. v1. 11 Nov 2017

THE RAINBOW BOOK By Mrs. M. H. (Mabel Henrietta) Spielmann (1862-1938)
Illustrations by Arthur Rackham (1867–1939); Hugh Thomson (1860–1920); John Bernard Partridge (1861–1945); William Pitcher aka C. Wilhelm (1858–1925)..

The Rainbow Book was first published in 1909.
Text and illustrations in this MobileRead edition are in the public domain in countries where copyright is “Life+80” or less, and in the USA. Due to copyright restrictions, illustrations by Lewis Baumer (1870–1963) and Harry Rountree (1878–1950) have been omitted.

------------------
Mabel Henrietta Spielmann (31 Aug. 1862 – 01 May 1938) was a British author, married to art critic Marion Harry Spielmann. In addition to a number of children's books, Spielmann wrote about the life and work of Charlotte Brontė, and about the history of art. Her works include Littledom Castle, The Child of the Air, The Love Family, Margery Redford, and My Son and I.

The Rainbow Book is a collection of short fantasy and fairy stories. Some are sweetly sentimental, but many feature a strong vein of humor, with comic situations and characters, and a treasure trove of puns and word-play. Young readers (and adults) who like to play with language will find many amusing tidbits here.

First published as magazine pieces, some of these stories were illustrated by various artists. The incomparable Arthur Rackham is, of course, our featured artist, and his self-portrait caricatures bring a whole new dimension to our concept of wizard-dom (see “Adventures in Wizard-land”).

Text and illustrations were obtained from archive.org. OCR errors were corrected; punctuation and italics formatted; images manually cleaned and enhanced. Cover and titlepage design derived from titlepage in the pdf scan. Embedded font for titling. Story titles are cross-linked to dynamic Table of Contents; the List of Illustrations provides links to images.

Have a read and find some smiles.
