Thumbs up Free (DRM-free) Adventures by Mike Resnick [SFnal Retro Historical Pulp Conman Tales]

Adventures: Volume I: 1922-1926 by prolific Hugo & Nebula Award-winning author Mike Resnick (ISFDB, Wikipedia, SFE) is the 1st collection in his The Chronicles of Lucifer Jones series of retro-historical pulp fiction adventures with mild sfnal elements starring the eponymous unrepentant conman, this first installment setting him on his way with a bunch of interconnected short stories taking place mostly in Africa (it's been a while since I've read these, but IIRC he travels to a new continent in each volume), free courtesy of publisher Phoenix Pick Press, who are e-printing it from its 1985 edition originally out from Signet's New American Library imprint.

This is their featured Free Book of the Month selection for February, and was previously offered free in 2012. I read the first three which I got in the tie-in sale last time around and really enjoyed them, though I should warn that they are pretty retro, including in regards to portraying period-typical colonial attitudes, so YMMV if that's just not something you want to read about, even if it's mostly to mock some stereotypes.

Currently free throughout February directly @ the publisher's promo page (DRM-free ePub & Mobi available worldwide in return for your valid email address; follow the instructions to reset the price to $0.00 in the cart before checkout)

There are two separate tie-in offers this month. One completes the set of #1-3 available from Phoenix Pick (Subterranean Press has the rights to #4) for $3.99 and you might have gotten it the last time around. The other provides 4 separate Resnick titles for $3.99, including stories that garnered Resnick his Hugo & Nebula awards, among others (IIRC, most of them they weren't offered the previous time there was a Resnick freebie with a tie-in offer and I'll be picking up once I check my records, if that's the case).

Description (the blurb actually does cut off at that point, and what else it would have said may remain a mystery for the ages)
Mike Resnick’s accomplishments (to date) include 64 novels, 21 collections, 40 anthologies, two screenplays and approximately 250 short stories—resulting in a couple of shelves of major awards (including five Hugos from 37 nominations and awards from various countries including Spain, France, Croatia and Japan).

Of all the characters that Mike has created, Lucifer Jones remains his favorite. We are proud to republish this hilarious series of adventures starring a most unique character.

Adventures is the first volume of the Chronicles.

Being a Stirring Chronicle of Intrigue, Romance, Danger, Hairbreadth Escapes, and Thrilling Triumphs over Fierce Beasts and Fiercer Men in the Mysterious and Exotic Dark Continent, as Recounted by the Daring, Resourceful, Handsome, and Modest Christian Gentleman Who Experienced Them.
