BIG NOTE:
You just shot yourself in the foot by doing that "Reset (to factory defaults)"
Re-install the jail break, before updating to the current firmware.

You also didn't tell them you had "downgraded" the device.
If you had, they would have told you to install the current firmware for the PW1

So I will,
Install the current firmware for the PW1 (5.6.1.1) (after re-installing the jailbreak).
That will fix your connection problems (no support for TLS, which Amazon started using a year ago ).
And the jailbreak will survive.
And you have re-install all add-ins, which is normal after an Amazon update.
