There are many, many threads here on MR discussing the topic. Some publishers have elected to delay releasing Kindle versions for fear they are losing hardback sales. Idiotic.
With the recent announcement of the iPad/MacMillan agreement, Amazon is being targeted directly and Steve Jobs/MacMillan have announced that new releases will be $14.99. Does price fixing ring a bell? According to publishers, the only alternative to pricing ebooks at the hardback rate is to delay the release and charge somewhat less. The ugly war begins.
I suggest you read the threads here on MR for a more detailed explanation and discussion.
