So I tried to sync on my Kobo Touch and that was giving me the error as well.
CWPitcher....the problem I had was similar to yours, but it was a book that was making the error show up and not a newspaper. I'm glad they figured out your problem, they didn't get back to me about it yet.

Thank you very much for your help. You were right, it was one book that made it all not work. It took a bit to figure out which book. I deleted that one book and then the sync worked just fine!! Thanks for helping a newbie out!!
