Look for the series by Glen Cook starting with Sweet Silver Blues.

If you took a Sam Spade novel and The Hobbit and put them in a blender you would get this snarky series. There are hot dwarfish red-heads, beer, vegan elf's, beer, a population of human, half-human, non-human all trying to live together during a war, beer, etc.
