Those are total installed base numbers, BTW. Not quarterly sales.
So some Kindle advantage over Nexus is to be expected; they have a 6 month lead.
And the 33% share is for the US. But the Nexus numbers from ASUS are global.

Figure Nexus sold another 2 million in nov and december for a total of 5 million and 57% of that is US so about three million Nexus US sales. Amazon at 4X Google would be 12 million installed base. If Google had slightly better sales or a higher US presence that they do internationally (which I doubt) you might have 4 million US Nexuses and 16 million FIRE's.
Hmmm, okay... Maybe.

The methodology seems dubious, though.
